Visit the city's most important shrine, home to the magnificent 10-metre Kazari Yamakasa festival float.
Sit down for a bowl of Hakata udon at a local restaurant.
A guided walk through four of Fukuoka's most storied temples: Tochoji, home to the Great Buddha and a striking five-story crimson pagoda; Shofukuji, Japan's oldest Zen temple; Myorakuji, known for its distinctive Hakata-bei mud walls; and Jotenji, the birthplace of udon and soba in Japan.
